Feel overwhelmed and that you have too much to do? Are you often distracted by yourself or others? Are there key issues that need to address in your life – perhaps in terms of your career, your finances or relationships?
I coach many people who are in a similar situation. It may be the case that you’re trying to fight a battle on too many fronts at the same time.
1) Identify the one single most important issue to you and focus on it.
2) Be clear on the specific outcome you want
3) Identify the actions that you need to take to address this
4) Identify the tools, resources and skills that you have and the mindset you’ll need
5) Identify the additional help, support, skills and resources you need to help you
One of my clients in such a situation he has challenges at home, at work, financially and with people in his life. We identified the number one priority that he needs to address. In his case it is financial. I have got him to focus on a simple strategy of purely focusing on generating more work for this month. Of course the other issues will not go away and there will be other things that you will need to consider. But by deciding on one priority you will get your mind to do its job: to plan, to work out, to be strategic, to get organised and to protect you as best it can.
I have seen this strategy work time and time again and I apply it personally. I continue to be amazed about profound it is. It is like the athlete that manages to block the deafening noise of the stadium and the other competitors and simply focus on their own lane and the winning post.
